2020 Disaster Relief - Typhoons Goni and Vamco Fund

Super Typhoon Goni struck the southern part of Luzon, the Philippines' most populous island, on November 1, 2020, killing at least 17 and forcing over 400,000 people to seek shelter in evacuation centers. The equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane as it approached landfall, Typhoon Goni barreled across the islands with sustained winds of 140 mph and gusts up to 195 mph, making it the year's most powerful storm, and one of the most intense cyclones in history. Storm surges inundated coastal towns, and flooded rivers overflowed, submerging several villages. In the Bicol region, more than 300 homes were buried under volcanic rocks and mudslides. Just over a week later on November 11, 2020, Typhoon Vamco made landfall in the same area as a Category 2 storm. 100+mph winds and heavy rains caused widespread flooding and damage across Luzon including Metro Manila. Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated in advance of the storm; the government has reported an additional 73 fatalities and several people remain missing. The Cisco Foundation has launched a $25,000 Typhoons Goni and Vamco disaster campaign to support response efforts of Americares, CARE, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), International Medical Corps, Oxfam-America, and Save the Children. Employee donations will be matched by Cisco Foundation, up to $10,000 per employee; and will not be counted toward employees' annual $25,000 match limit. **Note on Tax Deductibility: This fund may include organizations based in the US, and in other countries.
