CLOSED 2020 Disaster Relief - Puerto Rico Earthquake Fund
Since December 28th, there have been nearly 1,000 tremors and aftershocks in Puerto Rico, the largest one striking in the early hours of January 7th and registering a 6.4 on the Richter scale; another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 hit Puerto Rico on Saturday, January 11.
Nearly 270,000 households have lost access to water, while more than 5,000 people have lost their homes. Aftershocks continue and many are afraid to stay within their homes and near large structures. Because the island's water system has been affected by the vast power outages, access to safe water remains a concern alongside addressing mental health and health-related care.
The Cisco Foundation has launched a $100,000 disaster response campaign to benefit the American Red Cross, International Medical Corps, Mercy Corps, and World Central Kitchen. The Foundation will match eligible donations up to $10,000 per employee. Donations will not be counted toward employees' annual $10,000 match limit.
**Note on Tax Deductibility: This fund may include organizations based in the US, and in other countries. US employees who make a credit card donation will receive a receipt for tax deductibility for the portion of the donation contributed to US organizations. Employees outside the US will not be able to receive a receipt for tax deductibility for credit card donations to organizations in this fund.**
